Iceland is one of the very best places on Earth for aurora viewing. There is an international airport in Keflavik and great aurora viewing can be found within 10-20 minutes drive from populated areas.
Around the poles are socalled “Aurora Ovals” which are belts around the geomagnetic poles where auroras are formed. These belts vary in size according to the streingth of the solar winds that cause the auroras. Iceland is in the most active part of the Aurora Oval in the northern hemisphere which means that auroras can very often be seen as long as there is dark and a relatively clear sky.
